Robert Pattinson steps into the polished suit of TV journalist Chris Hansen in Primetime, a 2026 psychological crime thriller directed by Lance Oppenheim. Chris's Secret Comes Out

Behind the scenes, Chris's private life is a mess. Just as the show lands its big slot, he ends his affair with a woman named Krysten and apologizes to his wife, Mary Joan, promising to fix their marriage. But when he tries to end things face to face, Krysten breaks down and draws him back in, and a reporter photographs the moment.

Before a broadcast, the reporter blackmails Chris, threatening to expose the nation's favorite predator-hunter. Chris panics, cannot bring himself to tell Mary the truth, and takes his stress out on Andie.

Chasing the Big Fish

Jeff keeps up the pressure, comparing the show's numbers to Lost and demanding more intense cases. Chris turns back to Xavier's elusive target. Xavier identifies him as Bill Conradt, an assistant district attorney in Rockwall County, Texas, who will not commit to meeting anyone. To have any chance of catching him, the team must set up in Texas, and Chris agrees.

A Sting Falls Apart

The night before taping, Dan and Chris talk about how important the work is. Dan admits his friends think it is a joke, and Chris describes his earlier reporting on missing children in India. Then news arrives that another man has agreed to visit the house. At the same moment, Chris receives a threatening message from the blackmailing reporter and loses his composure. Instead of waiting for the man to get out of his car, Chris storms outside and finds the car empty.

The man drives off after warning others in an online chatroom, and Andie tells the crew their location is compromised. Inside, Dan brings the next visitor into the kitchen and waits for Chris. When Chris does not appear, Dan copies his host's approach and carries out the confrontation himself until the cameras arrive. He is thrilled by the result despite the chaos.

Andie's Breaking Point

Andie has been quietly courted by Patty, an ABC representative, who offers her a show of her own and slams Chris. At first Andie walks away. But after the messy Texas operation, and after being brushed aside by her male colleagues when she warns the team they know too little about Conradt, she starts to reconsider. She finally tells Chris she is leaving, and he responds by promising a huge target is coming.

The Second Attempt

During the second operation aimed at Conradt, Chris gets a call from Mary, who has learned about the affair. He responds by asking whether she is at least proud of his career. Mary ends the call, and Chris unravels. Seeing how much he needs her, Andie turns down Patty's offer and stays.

The Final Night

Xavier reports that after relentless messaging, Conradt has finally agreed to come to the house. Chris sends Dan to coax him out, but Conradt will not budge. Police move toward the man's home while Dan speaks to him on the phone. Realizing his actions have been discovered, Conradt takes his own life. Dan sits frozen in the car and Chris, visibly shaken, breaks down over what his life and career have become.

The Aftermath

Days later, Dan receives a letter from the Screen Actors Guild welcoming him into the union in recognition of his work on the hit series. It is the career breakthrough he always wanted, but it arrives on the back of a man's death. The film closes without a neat verdict, leaving viewers to decide who deserves blame and sympathy.
