Trivia

In 1980, when he was 36, the elderly Maria Auguste Antoinette Friederike Alexandra Hilda Luise Prinzessin von Anhalt, a minor German princess and the ex-wife of Prince Joachim of Prussia and former daughter-in-law of Kaiser Wilhelm II, adopted him, and he took the name "Fréderic Prinz von Anhalt", the German surname Prinz meaning prince. He also styled himself as Prince Frédéric of Anhalt, Duke of Saxony and Westphalia, Count of Ascania, although the German monarchy had been abolished in 1918 and no governments recognize his titles. The adoption was likely purchased to obtain a novelty royal title, and Maria had at least 35 other adopted adult children. Frédéric himself later adopted at least ten adult children to confer princely titles and knighthoods.
He married Zsa Zsa Gabor in 1986, and they remained married for over 30 years until her death in 2016. The marriage lasted longer than her previous eight marriages combined.
Brother-in-law of Eva Gabor and Magda Gabor.
The home he shared with wife, Zsa Zsa Gabor, was used as the location for Liberace's mansion during filming of Behind the Candelabra (2013).
On Von Anhalt's criminal past, The Hollywood Reporter stated that "German newspapers from that decade (1970's) chronicle a series of court proceedings and reported convictions for assault, burglary, fraud and theft.". [THR, 3/7/18, p. 84.].

"My mother, Zsa Zsa Gabor, always wanted to be a princess, so she married a queen!" This was Francesca Hilton's sarcastic barb at Frederic's alleged homosexuality. [THR 3/7/18, p. 86].
"I think it was an arrangement of mutual convenience. She knew he was gay. Everyone around them knew it was a joke, that he wasn't a prince. But she was also difficult and just happy, at that age, to find someone who would be with her, who she could use as a prop." [James Pembroke, former Security Director for Zsa Zsa Gabor] [THR, 3/7/18, p. 87].
He eventually became the sole heir of the combined estates of the three Gabor sisters as Zsa Zsa was the last surviving sister and inherited the estates of both her sisters, who had died unmarried and childless. When Gabor died in 2016, her only child Francesca having predeceased her, von Anhalt inherited Gabor's entire estate valued at around $40 million.
In 2007, following the death of Anna Nicole Smith, he claimed Smith had been his mistress for ten years and he could potentially be the father of her daughter, Dannielynn, and filed a paternity suit. DNA testing determined photographer Larry Birkhead was the father.
