The robbers tie Ernesto up and demand the safe deposit code. He gives a false one first and only surrenders the real code after they break his finger. Their target is box 34, which is supposed to hold diamonds, but Pedro opens it and announces that it is empty. The crew grabs cash and valuables from the other boxes and runs.
All four robbers are police. Pedro is retired, Carla is a lieutenant, her husband Tomás is a forensic evidence examiner, and Raúl is behind the wheel. In the car, Tomás accuses Pedro of pocketing the diamonds. The argument pulls Raúl's eyes off the road, and the car is struck in a violent collision. From here, the film replays the crash in chapters named after the person who dies.
In the first chapter, Pedro is impaled by a crowbar. Carla persuades the devastated Raúl to burn the car with his father's body inside, and the three survivors escape in a stolen vehicle and hide more than a million euros in the garage where they planned the job. Investigators still identify Pedro through the serial number on his medical prosthesis. Raúl panics and tries to run with the money, and when Tomás and Ernesto try to stop him at the hideout, Raúl shoots Tomás dead while Ernesto watches.
In the second chapter, Raúl dies instead. Pedro will not burn his son's body, because he wants Raúl's mother to be able to say goodbye, so police quickly identify Raúl as an officer. Pedro claims his son joined the robbery to rescue him from his debts. This version confirms that Pedro did keep the diamonds, and he hides them inside Raúl's coffin. A footprint he left at the bank leads to his arrest, and Inspector Luis, Carla's superior, uncovers her secret affair with Raúl and arrests her too.
The third chapter jumps to Luis interrogating Tomás, now the prime suspect. Luis presses him about his gambling debts and microloans from the same bank, then reveals that Carla was pregnant and hints the child may not be his. Tomás confronts Raúl in the police academy parking lot. Raúl admits the affair but insists he cannot have children, and Tomás shoots him anyway. Pedro hears the gunshots over the phone and races armed to the hideout, where Tomás kills him as well and flees with the money.
The fourth chapter is the only one that follows the story to its end. With Tomás killed in the crash, the survivors stay calm and cover their tracks, and two months later police blame an Eastern European gang and close the case. The crew splits the cash, with Ernesto taking two shares, one for a partner he will not name. Carla tells Raúl she is pregnant and does not know who the father is, and he says it does not matter.
Then Pedro has his stolen diamonds appraised and learns they are fakes. He confesses, and Carla digs into the box owner's paperwork. The stones were insured for five million euros: the owner swapped them for imitations before the robbery so he could collect the payout, and Ernesto helped engineer the fraud. Pedro tails the owner and watches him pass stones to Lola, a waitress at the café beside the bank, who swallows them. Soon afterward Pedro is arrested, because the pawnshop owner he visited reported him to police.
Carla and Raúl follow Ernesto, Lola's secret lover, to the airport. He convinces them to keep the cash and let him board rather than cause a scene that would sink them all. Once aboard, he gets a call from Lola on a different flight. The bank's loans ruined her brother, and she planned to use Ernesto and escape with the diamonds alone. Ernesto calmly tells her the stones she swallowed are fake and that he has the real ones. He flies to Bangkok with the fortune, and Luis arrests Carla and Raúl as they leave the terminal.
The film returns to the crash one last time, and now all four survive. They burn the wreck and drive away in a stolen car, past a billboard assuring the public that the bank is in good hands. In the back seat, Carla and Raúl trade a knowing smile. Tomás complains about a foul smell, and Pedro tells him he had better get used to it. Pedro stepped in dog mess outside the bank, and earlier chapters showed how that footprint can lead investigators straight to the gang. The film ends there, without saying whether this version holds, while the affair, Pedro's theft and Ernesto's scam are all still waiting to surface.
Sánchez Arévalo is best known for emotional comedies and dramas, and Collision Course is his first thriller. That background is its secret weapon. The rewind structure invites comparisons with Run Lola Run, but where that film played with chance, this one uses each death as an X-ray. Losing Pedro exposes Raúl's panic, losing Raúl exposes Pedro's mix of devotion and greed, and losing Carla turns a quiet forensics officer into a killer. By the fourth chapter, the audience knows these people better than they know each other, which is exactly why the airport double-crosses hit so hard.
The cost of that design is momentum. Three of the five chapters are deliberately incomplete, so the film can feel as if it is circling instead of advancing, and the payoff depends on viewers tracking small details such as a footprint across several versions. Some threads, including the father of Carla's baby, are left open on purpose, which will reward some viewers and frustrate others.
The strongest creation is Ernesto, the supposed victim who turns out to be the coldest player in the story. The 2013 setting is more than decoration, too. A crew of police officers robbing a bank that ruined them, only to be outplayed by a banker, is a bitter joke about a crisis in which the people at the top walked away and everyone else paid.
